The AN-72 was developed in the 1970s by the Antonov Design Bureau as a multi-purpose military transport aircraft. It has gained popularity for its ability to operate in extreme conditions, take off and land on short and unprepared runways, and carry significant cargo.
Atlantic Airlines used the AN-72 as a freighter. Due to its unique design, the aircraft was extremely useful for short- and medium-haul cargo operations, especially in regions where the infrastructure was underdeveloped.
